Desktop Support (2nd Line Support, Windows, MCP or equivalent, Cisco, Powershell, Automation)

Our client underwrites a diverse portfolio of property, casualty and marine insurance and reinsurance business on a world-wide basis.

This position is a permanent User Support role within the Technology Services department, based in prestigious headquarters in London.   The successful candidate will perform a 2nd line Desktop support role supporting the business user community in their UK and global offices.

Duties and accountabilities

  • Diagnose and resolve software and hardware incidents, including operating systems (XP, Windows 7 & 8) and across a range of software applications

  • Take ownership of issues by carrying out problem analysis to implement temporary or permanent fixes with the aim of restoring service to the customer as soon as possible; escalating incidents to other support teams where necessary

  • Provide technical support to technical and non-technical colleagues, providing first class customer service

  • Install, configure, deploy, maintain and support computer software & hardware in accordance with defined standards and specifications

  • Create, maintain, and publish relevant support documentation in order to assist other members of staff in Technology Services

  • Assist in the automation of support tasks using tools such as Powershell, Orchestrator and SCCM

  • Proactively look for improvements to process & User Experience

  • Provide 1st line cover when required


The successful candidate will have a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) qualification or equivalent appropriate to this role, and substantial experience in a Windows Desktop Support role, with demonstrable hands on skills and support and problem solving experience in the following areas: 

Desirable/ advantageous: 

  • Microsoft Windows 7 & 8

  • Microsoft Office 2010 and prior

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer & other related browsers

  • Experience of working in a VDI environment

  • VMWare Virtual Centre / Citrix / Wyse devices

  • Blackberry, Good Technology

  • Follow-Me printing

  • Printers, Scanners and general office peripherals

  • Cisco Video Conferencing and Telephony

  • Microsoft SCCM & Software packaging

  • Powershell

  • Audio / Visual technologies specifically AMX technologies
