Infrastructure Support Engineer, Infrastructure Support Specialist, Wintel, VMWare, Netapp, SQL

Exciting Opportunity for an Infrastructure Support Engineer to join a Professional Services organisation based in the city for a contract assignment. The Infrastructure Support Engineer will be supporting a new initiative, which was to set up segregated infrastructure for a suite of specific business applications and is configured to perform as an internal cloud service. This will in due course include external cloud as an option and to operate it in a new way that is highly responsive to our Client's needs.

What are the role requirements?           

This role requires an individual who has proven technical experience in an enterprise IT environment and in depth technical "hands on" skills in several of the following technologies: 

  • Microsoft SQL server database Administration including Installation, operational activities such as performance & tuning, troubleshooting, back-up & restore, SSIS, application assistance.

  • VMWare vSphere 5.x and Horizon View 5 or above operational administration.

  • Windows Server Operating System/Active Directory

Although not essential, it would also be an advantage if the individual has some experience in the following: 

  • File transfer, upload and encryption technologies

  • CA SiteMinder agent installation and configuration

  • Deploy and administer web-based applications using IIS

  • Deploying, renewing and Import & export of the SSL certificates

  • Networking (firewalls, routers, switches (primarily Cisco) and network monitoring/troubleshooting toolsets

The role in more detail:

This is a technical operational role therefore the successful candidate must be willing to work an 8hr shift pattern to cover the core hours of 08:30-18:00.

The individual will also be required to cover an element of on-call on a rotational basis.

As this role is also customer focused and dynamic in nature it requires an individual who demonstrates: 

  • Knowledge, skills and experience to understand, build and operate the listed technologies.

  • A strong breadth of technical skills in a number of elements of IT infrastructure.

  • Customer focused with good communication skills.

  • Ability to be creative, agile and flexible in a fast moving environment.

  • Ability to work in a team and provide out of hours support as needed.

  • The ability to make logical and reasoned decisions is vital

  • Willingness to take responsibility and get things done
