Permanent: Server Engineer / Storage Engineer - EMC, HP-3PAR, Linux

Salary: up to £50k plus on call,

The successful applicant will join an established team of dedicated engineers operating data centre environments. The team design, build and support highly available environments for the clients in-house applications. Once trained, the successful applicant will take part in the 24hr on-call rota remotely supporting a number of datacentres within the EMEA region. 

*Candidates must be prepared to travel between Ashford & Uxbridge which will be subject to business requirements 

Technical knowledge and skills that are required include:

  • Experience operating large, high-availability, redundant, transaction-based systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of all Data Center technologies, including Windows, Linux, UNIX server operations, VMware
  • Expertise of network based storage systems and SANs, specifically EMC/HP-3PAR
  • Experience with installation and configuration of Dell and HP servers and blade systems.
  • Preferred background with SQL server database management
  • Advanced knowledge of established internal and external IT industry standards, practices, and methodologies as well as advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good understanding of Networks and Firewall infrastructure
  • BS in Management Information Systems or equivalent
  • EMC/HP-3PAR/VMware certification
  • ITIL experience desired
  • Strong professional experience in IT
  • Be able to travel unrestricted through Europe. EU travel will be infrequent however subject to the demand of the business

 Industry knowledge and leadership skills that are required include:

  • Minimum of a BSc in Management Information Systems or equivalent industry experience
  • Drives operational excellence through people, process and tools
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including coaching and motivating people, interacting with Senior Management, and building strong working relationship with business managers and product development teams.
  • Process and documentation oriented
  • Problem solver who can lead team through crisis situations through rational approach, mature judgment and clear coordination of tasks.

 Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operational excellence of the Server and Storage infrastructure of the Managed Service
  • Set and achieve service level targets
  • Coordinates and helps prioritize enhancements to assure a sound overall architecture and uninterrupted operations
  • Coordinates PCI/DSS certification process
  • Provides System Monitoring & Alerting
  • Adherence to strict Change Control processes
  • Builds process for rapid problem detection and resolution, including escalation policies
